This Victorian gold necklace, fashioned as a snake, will go under the hammer at Charterhouse in Sherbourne, Dorset, on May 24-25.
Consigned by a vendor in Rutland, the necklace dates to c.1870 and it is set with amethyst, peridot and cabochon garnets for the snake’s eyes, while the chain of thick links simulate scales. It comes in its original leather fitted case and is estimated at £1500-2500.
This vibrant, multi-coloured screenprint by Op artist Bridget Riley (b.1931) is estimated at £3000-5000 in a sale of modern and contemporary prints at Sworders of Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex on May 9.
Titled To Midsummer (Schubert 34), the framed 3ft x 2ft 11in (93 x 91cm) work dates to 1989 and is signed, titled and numbered 1/100 in pencil.

A single-owner collection of antique Lalique glass estimated upwards of £45,000 will go under the hammer at Cheffins of Cambridge on May 10.
The 54-piece group is being offered in the 130th anniversary year of Lalique’s founding in 1888.
Pictured is a 7in (18cm) Espalion patterned green glass vase, etched R Lalique, which is guided at £2000- 3000, while the most expensive piece, a Madagascar pattern hanging light, is estimated at £4000-6000.

A small maker’s mark to this necklace helped Chiswick Auctions identify it as a unique piece by famed French jeweller René Boivin (1864-1917).
Made in 1911, the ‘Japanese’ necklace is understood to have been acquired by the vendor’s father in the late 1950s or early ‘60s, and has been authenticated by Françoise Cailles, a leading authority on the Maison Boivin. Of stylised bib form, it has a fluted nephrite demi lune decorated with modelled cherry blossoms, and a suspended fringe of pearls and nephrite beads and drops.
Considered ‘the jeweller of the intelligentsia’, Boivin was particularly drawn to naturalistic themes, including flowers and animals, and had a preference for using unusual materials and semi-precious stones such as wood and moonstones.
The necklace is estimated at £2000-3000 in the May 15 jewellery sale.
