1. Depicting the bottle kiln chimneys towering above Stoke-on-Trent, this 11½in (29cm) square oil on board townscape is an early work by Hungarian-English painter Endre Hevezi (b.1923). It more than doubled its top guide at Batemans in Stamford on May 5.

2. This 10 x 11in (25 x 28cm) coastal oil by versatile Irish painter and author Ronald Ossory Dunlop (1894-1973) tipped over top estimate to sell at W&H Peacock in Bedford on May 4. He has been described by the art historian Frances Spalding as an ‘alla prima’ painter of traditional subjects.

3. Prices for English Scottish painter Perpetua Pope (1916-2013) have risen on the secondary market over the last two decades, although her work is still affordable. This 9½ x 14in (24 x 35cm) oil on board of Eoligarry Harbour in Barra, dated 1992, sold at Ramsay Cornish in Edinburgh on May 5.
