The sculptor also creates bespoke pieces from vintage furniture he acquires at fairs and auctions.
His most recent work is a public installation he has called Azimuth facing the sea at Eastbourne created from giant jetty timbers sourced in Portsmouth. It looks like the hull of a giant shipwreck or, more fancifully the ribs of a mythical sea god.
Reclaimed timber
Based in East Sussex, Seaman also creates bespoke library, bedroom and kitchen furniture from old wood.
“I love to use reclaimed timber because of its past,” he says. “It has that character and look. It used to be old floorboards but these have become so expensive that I now work with old furniture which I source at fairs and auctions. I love cutting up old timbers and thinking about their history. “
Rather spectacularly and as a long-term project, Seaman is creating a wooden sculpture of a motorbike, loosely based on his first large motorcycle, the Honda NX650 which he may exhibit in the future at a specialist fair. He can be contacted via his website below.
