A sale of contents of four homes belonging to the late Pierre Bergé is to go under the hammer at Sotheby’s Paris rooms in association with auction house Pierre Bergé & Associes. The ensemble, which comes from homes in Paris, Normandy, Provence and Morocco that Bergé shared with Yves Saint Laurent, were decorated by famous interior designers and filled with objects that they often chose together.
It runs to more than 1000 lots to be auctioned over three days from October 29-31, preceded by a five-day view.
A group of paintings by Bernard Buffet, tribal art from Africa and sculpture and works of art and design by the Lalannes (for whom Bergé and Saint Laurent were early patrons) all feature.
This 18th century framed white marble profile portrait of Louis XIV is one of the first pieces that Bergé and Saint Laurent bought together and will be the first lot to go under the hammer in the auction estimated at €6000-8000.
