Signed by all involved in its production, it is one of the few copies not already in institutional collections, said Keys (20% buyer’s premium) of Aylsham. It sold their August 30-31 auction for £780.
In the same Norfolk sale a fine looking copy in original pictorial cloth gilt of an 1894 edition of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice illustrated by Hugh Thomson sold well at £900.
Any number of signed and/or inscribed copies have made more, but £700 was also a strong price for a straightforward, 1963 first in an unclipped jacket of John Le Carré’s The Spy who Came in from the Cold.
In the original 2in (5cm) crimson and black morocco gilt binding and illustrated with 10 plates, a miniature Bible issued by John Harris of London in 1778 sold at £400 in the Norfolk sale.
