Two other such special copies, bound in full red morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe with gilt fish decorating the spine and corners of the covers, have sold at that same price in the last 12 years – both at Sotheby’s.
Featuring a pop-up tree and metal tray case, a much more modern binding on a 2005, Gauntlet Press edition of The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury made £600 in the Leicestershire sale.
The sale took place on September 4.
