A dressing table by Gillows is guided at £2000-3000 in a sale at Bristol Auction Rooms in Brislington on October 11.

The 2ft 5in x 3ft 2in (74 x 97cm) rosewood, amboyna and gilt metal mounted lady’s kidney dressing table, dates c.1870 and is stamped with the company’s mark.

Woolley & Wallis of Salisbury is selling an early 18th century wax portrait bust of James II in the manner of French ivory sculptor David Le Marchand (1674-1726).

The 5in (13cm) high piece depicts the short-lived Catholic king wearing armour and a lace cravat – probably based on the portrait by Godfrey Kneller.

It comes in a later mounted 19th century gilt and composition glazed box frame and is guided in the October 3 sale at £2000-3000.

A 21 x 17in (54 x 43cm) black and white chalk drawing - a study of Apollo for Day and the Dawnstar, Herbert James Draper’s (1863-1920) famous Royal Academy entry in 1906 - will go under the hammer at Chiswick Auctions in west London on October 3, guided at £2000-3000.

. One of 14 drawings known to have been made for the oil, Draper had initially drafted his distinctive contrapposto composition for the Wagnerian subject The Meads of Asphodel and then Aurora and Tithonus, before settling on Day and the Dawnstar.

A sale of vintage and collectable toys will take place at C&T Auctioneers in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, on October 2-3.

Leading the sale is a 22in (56cm) long cream and grey clockwork tinplate three funnel battleship, made by the German firm George Carette & Co c.1910. Estimate £2000-3000.
