Flowers in a White Vase by Scottish artist Anne Redpath (1895-1965) is estimated at £4000-6000. The 18 x 14in (37 x 27cm) watercolour is typical of the artist’s use of white paint and flat-surfaced interior arrangements, where familiar household objects like cups, jugs, teapots, and flowers are disconcertingly displayed on tilting table-tops.

After almost 50 years on public display in the silver galleries at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, a James I silver shell-form spice or sugar box will be offered at auction in April.
Designed with a realistically chased scallop shell-hinged cover and snail feet, the 10.3oz piece bears the maker’s mark BT, possibly for Balthasar Trimson, London 1611.
It was given as a wedding present in 1936 to Sir Godfrey Nicholson and his wife Lady Katharine, the fifth daughter of the 27th Earl of Crawford, and passed by decent to Baroness Emma Nicholson of Winterbourne.
Salisbury saleroom Woolley & Wallis will offer it on April 16 estimated at £15,000-20,000.

According to London auction house Roseberys, it has been five years since a print from Marc Chagall’s (1887-1985) limited-edition Dedication [Mourlot 557] has appeared at auction.
The West Norwood saleroom has been charged with selling this example above on April 8, estimated at £5000-7000. Typical of Chagall’s romantic depictions of love and fertility, the framed 18 x 16in (45 x 40cm) lithograph was made in an edition of 50 in 1968.
