Barlow sisters Doulton Lambeth vase offered at Kingham & Orme on December 8 sold for £6500.
They occasionally worked together on their trademark sgrafito pieces, as in the case of the rare 13¼in (34cm) tall vase offered at Kingham & Orme (22% buyer’s premium) in Evesham on December 8 (above).
Decorated with sgraffito monkeys between pâte sur pâte birds and flowers, and with incised marks, it is the only known piece to depict monkeys by Hannah Barlow.
As such, it was bullishly estimated at £6000-7000, which proved very accurate when the vase sold at £6500.
