The collection includes this 7 x 10in (17 x 25cm) pen and ink drawing of the Punto della Dogana and behind it the church of Santa Maria delle Salute.

As the name implies, in those days the Dogana, which was erected at the confluence of the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal in the late 1670s, was the main Venetian customs office. Nowadays, the building houses the priceless collection of modern and contemporary art of the French billionaire François Pinault.

The drawings in the Heidelberg auction are all being offered without reserve and guide prices.
