A collection of 18th and 19th century English and Oriental ceramics from the attics of a Scottish country house is to be sold in the June 8 auction of antiques and works of art at Thomson Roddick in Dumfries.
The 60-lot group was stored for a considerable time within the servant’s quarters of the house and includes this pair of Chelsea raised anchor period beakers above, c.1750-52. Each 2½in (6.5cm) high beaker is decorated with an exotic bird among flowers and foliage.

A vast collection of Cornishware’s trademark blue and white striped pottery will be offered at Plymouth Auctions on June 26 in Devon, with estimates ranging from £50-100.
The group was assembled over many years by a single owner and comprises some 400 pieces divided into 50 lots.
Pieces offered individually include a series of 10in (25cm) tall mugs and a square fridge box, while job lots contain a wide range of bespoke lettered jars from tea, coffee and sugar to rarer ones labelled for haricot beans and table salt.
Among the most prolific and skilled of Robert Adam’s decorative painters was the Italian artist Biagio Rebecca (1735-1808). A pupil of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, he went on to work on many decorative schemes at grand English country houses, including Harewood House and Kedleston Hall, and also worked for fellow British architects James and Samuel Wyatt and Henry Holland.
This small 4 x 5in (8 x 11cm) watercolour study for a ceiling design, above, is guided at £300-500 in a Books and Works on Paper sale on June 6 at Forum Auctions in Mayfair, London. It comes from the former collection of Edward Croft-Murray, who was keeper of the department of prints and drawings at the British Museum from 1954-73.

A Georgian diamond, split pearl and black garnet memorial ring is estimated at £300-400 in an auction on June 6 held by Fellows in Birmingham.
The kite-shape outline features old-cut diamonds and comes in overall good to fair condition with partially indistinct hallmarks.
