1. This 7 x 8in (18 x 20cm) oil on board of Clevedon Pier in Somerset by the self-taught folk artist John Caple (b.1966), sold well above a £25-40 guide at Clevedon Salerooms on May 23. Caple’s paintings often feature recurring faces and figures of his family.

2. Heavily influenced by the Colourists and Cezanne, Donald Bain (1904-79) exhibited widely in France and Scotland, although at the time of his death his work was not widely known. Steeplechase, a 10 x 13in (25 x 33cm) oil on board, sold on mid estimate at Thomas R Callan on May 25 in Ayr.

3. English painter Bernard Adeney (1878-1966) was a founding member of The London Group and its president from 1921-23. This signed 14 x 18in (35 x 46cm) oil with provenance to Ernest Brown & Phillips and The Leicester Galleries, nearly doubled its top guide at Dreweatts in Donnington Priory on June 5.
