This event is now in its eighth year and offers traditional antiques, fashion, upcycled furniture, textiles, homewares and lighting.

It is held in the city’s Green Park Station and the next is on Sunday, May 26.

Fletcher said: “The vintage rugs I sell are Persian/ Oriental handmade or the finest quality power-loomed Belgian rugs, mainly by Louis de Poortere. I try to bring about 70 rugs to the market with a typical price for a large Persian Tabriz rug sized 13 x 10ft (4 x 3m) being £395.”

Fletcher’s business background was initially in importing Hymer motorhomes. After selling this business in 2005 he moved to Belgium and started dealing in antiques.

After a serious accident he sold his stock, decided to take it easy, got bored, bought a book on Persian and Oriental rugs and now, he said: “I’m hooked.”

Fletcher added: “I do three or four markets a month and am buying a specialist trailer so I can do the outdoor fairs and markets.”
