Among the selection of folk art and treen on the website of Battersea dealership Robert Young Antiques is this early stylised cockerel weathervane, offered for £3500.

This example, made in England c.1800, is of reductive, full-bodied form. Standing 3ft 7in (1.09m) high in heavy gauge sheet copper, it is weathered and riveted.

It is a classic object for lovers of folk art and features a natural verdigris patinated surface.

Young’s selection of folk art and vernacular furniture includes works “artistically uninhibited” and unique with “intriguing surface texture…which reflects its age, history, medium and function”.
