A rare pair of famille rose ‘export’ porcelain wall sconces from the Qianlong period carry an estimate of £8000-10,000 at the sale of Chinese Paintings & Works of Art at Woolley & Wallis in Salisbury on November 12.
Each formed as a child’s arm clasping a socket to accept a candle, the teardrop-shaped sconces are moulded with colourful lingzhi.

Tennants’ Autumn Fine Art Sale in Leyburn on November 16 includes this curiosity above: a late-19th century mahogany cabinet built around five period narwhal tusks.
Once said to be the horns of the mythical unicorn and imbued with magical qualities, narwhal ‘tusks’ are actually teeth that grow through the lip of the male narwhal in a tight spiral. Long prized, narwhal tusks have garnered high prices throughout the centuries, and this cabinet is offered for sale with an estimate of £10,000-15,000.
The cabinet is sold with a CITES Article 10 (non-transferable) licence.

The Evolution sale at Summers Place Auctions in Billingshurst on November 19 includes a 4ft 10in (1.47m) nine leaf brass floor lamp by Italian post-war designer Tommaso Barbi, c.1970.
Barbi produced many similar works that combined functionality with inspiration from the natural world, with this Rabarbaro (rhubarb leaf) lamp above among his signature works.
