This London Underground poster for travel to cricket matches at Lord’s and the Oval was designed by Sybil Andrews (1898-1992), the Grosvenor School artist whose distinctive graphic style is reflected here in the figures of the players.
The 3ft 3in x 2ft (99 x 61cm) poster from 1934, printed by Waterlow & Son, is one of nine that Andrews designed for London Underground between 1925-35 working under the pseudonym Andrew Power, as a tribute to Cyril Power with whom she shared a studio at the time.
It sold for $1700 (£1310) against a guide of $2500-3500 at the auction November 14.
