Last August we ran a story on the opening of the centre. Business became so brisk that the Marshes took up extra space downstairs.

Now, they have taken over the entire ground floor for their Mid-century furniture, industrial pieces, lighting and 1960s-70s ceramics and glassware.

Stephen said: “I source my stock from Belgium, France and Spain and it’s turning over very quickly – the quirkier the better.”

Quirky might be one description for one of the items offered: an ex-display 5ft tall Pelham clown puppet, priced at £300. “It certainly scares a few adults but children like to play with it,” said Marsh.

Pelham puppets were wooden marionette figures created in the UK for both professionals and children by Bob Pelham (1919-80), whose company in Wiltshire also made glove and ventriloquist puppets. The Pelham Puppets firm finally ceased trading in 1993, leaving a wide range of the puppets with rarities including the Alice in Wonderland range from the 1950s.
