A c.1st century BC Roman agate intaglio in a 19th century archaeological revival mount depicts a scene from the mythological founding of Rome: Faustulus discovering the she-wolf suckling the infants Romulus and Remus. The figures are shown below a fruiting vine with a bird perched on the wolf’s back.
