The Tipping family lived in Ardwick, a highly fashionable suburb of Manchester in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, where Nathan Mayer Rothschild and John Rylands built mansions.

The family marked a tragic loss with a fine quality ring in black and white enamel set with rose-cut diamonds and a central band of plaited hairwork.

There were some losses to the diamonds set around the border of the urn and slight chipping to the enamel, but it took £3200 (estimate £300-500) at Dreweatts (25% buyer’s premium) on June 15.
