They come from one of the region’s prominent model railway enthusiasts – the late Kenneth ‘Mike’ Abbott. Over 70 gauge-1 and G-scale locomotives are available alongside three miniature locomotives which run on 7¼in track and another made for 5½in track, not to mention his 00-gauge collection which includes over 150 locos.
Proceeds of the sale have been bequeathed to the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, a narrow-gauge line built in 1903 to link farming communities with the market town of Welshpool. Following its closure in 1956, seven years later a group of enthusiasts began the process of reopening the railway.
Abbott was a prominent member of the Leicester Society of Model Engineers. He exhibited and ran his locomotives in various parts of the UK. As a result, the majority come in wooden cases for transportation and protection.
The auction will be held in Market Harborough on August 18. All lots are offered without reserve.
