These include Beckenham and Catford, with their latest venue a deconsecrated church in New Cross.

Now, after holding a fair in Croydon for the first time last autumn they were so impressed by the response that they are returning for a second edition – and it is in another impressive venue.

Old said: “We had wanted to hold an event in Croydon for ages and the iconic, now refurbished Fairfield Halls, built in 1962 and south London’s largest arts, culture and entertainment centre – which once hosted bands such as The Beatles and Pink Floyd – seemed the natural place to do it.”

The second Croydon fair runs on Saturday and Sunday, March 14-15.

Vintage industrial

Lighting is a good seller at So Last Century’s events and Sarah and Andrew Parker of JAMS Ironwork will be at Fairfield Halls with a range of lamps made from salvaged materials.

Andrew’s background is in metal fabrication starting with a motorsports company.

He said: “I started my business part time in 2012 before going full time in 2015.

“I was drawn to the vintage industrial scene because working with it suits the skills I have.

“The fairs I stand at are an important part of the business. When it comes to furniture and lighting, I think people really like to see the item up close than juggling about with images on the web.”

So Last Century’s fairs come recommended by collectors of Mid-century items and 40 hand-picked vintage dealers will be setting out their stalls at Fairfield Halls selling mid-20th century decor, furniture, ceramics, glass, homeware and original 1960s-70s posters.
