Some of these are postponed events that were due to be held in March and April such as the Old Master and 19th century works on paper sale now rescheduled for May 27.
Others are part of the summer schedule, like the latest in the series The Collector Le Gôut Français to be staged on May 26. This is a mix of traditional decorative fields such as European furniture, paintings and works of art, ceramics, silver, carpets and Chinese works of art spanning the 18th to the 20th centuries.
For its London and Paris Collectors sales Christie’s has been working with a ‘tastemaker’ who typically selects their favourite lots, assists with catalogue illustrations and promotion, curates the viewing and displays pieces from their collections/galleries. For this latest sale the auction house has partnered with Eloise Gilles, co-founder of Galerie Mayaro.
Distinguished dynasty
Among the highlights will be this pair of Louis XIV ormolu-mounted, patinated and chased bronze vases, above. One of them bears a label reading collection Jacques Guerlain on the base. Guerlain was member of a distinguished dynasty of perfumiers who assembled an impressive collection of paintings, furniture and works of art.
The vases, now missing their covers, stand 14in (36cm) high and are estimated at €30,000-50,000.
