BADA Friends back with events line-up
BADA Friends, part of The British Antique Dealers’ Association, ran a virtual schedule through lockdown but is returning to physical events.
Events this summer feature dealers Serhat Ahmet and Lennox Cato. Cecil Court ceramic dealer Ahmet will host an event at his London shop on May 12.
Meissen, Sèvres and the World of European Porcelain is priced at £18 for BADA Friends members.
Later that month, on May 19, is a visit to Elton Hall which includes a tour accompanied by furniture specialist Cato to talk about the William Beckford cabinets that are on display at the country house in Northamptonshire. The event is priced at £50 for BADA Friends members which includes tea after the tour.
On June 8 a Journey into the World of Rare and Beautiful Pieces from the 17th century until the present day will take place at Cave Decorative Arts in London, priced at £18.
In July, book dealer Daniel Crouch will hold a masterclass at his St James’s gallery. The event on July 13 is £18 for members.

West Dean merges with design school
West Dean College of Arts and Conservation in Chichester is joining forces with KLC School of Design in London. Chief executive Alexander Barron said the merger represents “an exciting new era for specialist creative education”.
KLC will join The Edward James Foundation, which operates West Dean College, in July this year. They aim to combine operations from August.
KLC’s portfolio of interior and garden design courses will form a new School of Design as part of the larger West Dean College, which currently has a School of Conservation and a School of Arts.
West Dean courses include buildings, materials and objects conservation as well as fine art, creative writing and contemporary craft.
KLC’s London studios in the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre and West Dean’s Grade II-listed rural campus in the South Downs will continue operations for the foreseeable future.
Maak marks its 10th anniversary

Studio ceramics auction house Maak is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.
The firm has launched a new website and its spring Modern + Contemporary Ceramics auction on May 10-13 marks the 24th sale since its inaugural auction in May 2011.
Trio sentenced after burglary foiled
Thieves caught trying to steal from an antiques shop by drilling through from the shop next door have been jailed.
Peter Fitzharris 42, David Newman, 42 and Mark Rabjohns 38, admitted two burglary offences each at Gloucester Crown Court on February 21.
Fitzharris and Newman must serve two years and seven months each while Rabjohns was told to serve 18 months suspended for two years.
The men broke into the Tweed Company Shop on the Promenade, Cheltenham, on January 9 and then cut a hole in the wall to gain access to Promenade Antiques.
A store alarm disrupted the men who were shown on CCTV fleeing empty handed.
Officers caught up with them shortly after. Police at the scene found a large angle grinder and an axe used to carry out the burglary attempt.
Phillips and Poly hold joint auction
Phillips and Chinese auction firm Poly Auction plan duallocation Beijing and Hong Kong joint auctions for 20th century and Contemporary art and design on June 7-8.
The two auction houses held their first joint sale in 2020 in Hong Kong.
Poly is China’s largest stateowned auction house.
Phillips also announced it will host its first sales in its new 432 Park Avenue location in June.
New York sales of 20th century and Contemporary art will be held on June 23-24 at the new premises following Phillips’ move along the street from its previous saleroom in Park Avenue at 57th street.
Jeremiah Evarts has joined Phillips.
Separately, Modern art specialist Jeremiah Evarts has joined Phillips as senior international specialist and deputy chairman within the 20th century and Contemporary art department in New York.
He was previously a director at New York gallery Di Donna Galleries and prior to that spent 14 years in the Impressionist and Modern Art department at Sotheby’s in New York.
