Wimbledon event is back in play
The Wimbledon Homes & Antiques Fair launched last year as a large outdoor event to comply with government Covid-19 guidelines and complement Sunbury Antiques’ two racecourse events at Kempton Park and Sandown Park.
It did so well, with the location in south-west London thought to be a big plus, that the organisers have five monthly Sunday dates this year.
Play will recommence on Sunday, May 2, at the Prince George’s Playing Fields. Organiser Edward Cruttenden said: “So far we have around the 200-mark confirmed which is similar to last year. With many fairs opening up on this particular weekend we are really pleased.
“Our attendance of more than 2000 buyers at both Wimbledon events last year means there is plenty to go round. We’re in good shape.”
Down by Beccles riverside
A buyer clocking-out last year at the biannual Beccles Antiques Market.
Back again in its temporary open space by the quay alongside the River Waveney, the Beccles Antiques Market takes place on Sunday, May 2.
This is usually held bang in the centre of the Suffolk town on the Norfolk border but was relocated last year to this safer Covid-19 space.
Co-organiser Kate Lee, who owns an antiques shop in the town, said: “We’ll have about 100 professional dealers with a good selection of antiques, retro and collectables plus there will be a food court with plenty of open space to sit. We’re expecting around 5000 visitors on the day.”

Tents event pitches up in Herefordshire
Taking it easy with some light reading matter on collectables is this toddler at one of Antiques in Tents’ past fairs.
Julia Brisbane of Antiques in Tents is thrilled to be running her two-day biannual antiques fairs again at Burton Court overlooking the Herefordshire countryside, with the first this year on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 18-19.
“We’ve had a fantastic response and I’m already booked up,” she says. “I’ll have 50-plus dealers in our usual big marquee, in the house and also garden statuary in the grounds.
“Exhibitors include regulars Newsum Antiques in Cheltenham, local business Fontaine Decorative and newcomer Poacher’s Pocket with sporting items.”
