Offered by York Modern Books for £1750 in the event run by the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association (ABA), the undated sketchbook comprises some 26 watercolours, pen and ink and pencil sketches, including several portraits, such as the one shown here, and depictions of farm animals.

London-born Jones attended Croydon Art School and the Royal College of Art where she was taught by Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden. She went on to become a major contributor to the Recording Britain project during the Second World War and made many murals for exhibitions and ocean liners.

The sketchbook along with over 2000 highlights will be unveiled at 2pm GMT on February 18, with new items added throughout the event until February 23.

Following the success of its online rare book events in 2020 (an estimated £1.5m of sales were made at the September and November editions of Firsts), the ABA recently announced new fairs under the brand with its counterparts in Canada and Italy.

Firsts Canada was staged at the start of February, while Firsts Italia takes place from March 18-21, featuring members of Associazione Librai Antiquari d’Italia and The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers.

The next physical edition of Firsts, London’s Rare Book Fair, is planned for this year at Saatchi Gallery in Sloane Square
