It is part of a collection of presentation watercolours from the Whitefriars Glasshouse after it was bought by James Powell in 1834.

His three sons established the stained glass department in 1844 and, with the assistance of Charles Winston, created pieces that were as close as possible to medieval stained glass in texture and colour.

The venture was highly successful, with windows appearing in churches, institutional buildings and private homes across the UK, the British Empire and North America.
