Bing live steam horse-drawn fire engine – £3500 at Tennants.
The specialist sale at Tennants (20% buyer’s premium) in Leyburn on December 9, for example, notched up an impressive 97% sold rate for the 672-lot auction and total hammer price of £112,720.
The top lot was a Bing live steam horse-drawn fire engine, hand-painted in red (above). Measuring 11in (28cm) high, the engine beat its £400-600 estimate to sell for £3500. It came from a private family collection in the north of England, and was bought by a UK private buyer.
