The fair was a long-running art and antiques event at the Grand Palais in the French capital, organised by the dealers’ association Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA).

It was founded in 1956 when it was held at the Porte de Versailles and moved to the Grand Palais in 1962.

Despite the name, the Biennale became an annual event in 2016 but did not take place in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. SNA said a “new event will celebrate excellency in the arts and fine craftsmanship” and will “turn the page of the Paris Biennale”.

This venture is being put together by event specialists Alexis Cassin, Fabienne Lupo and Henri Jobbé Duval, Patrick Bazanan and SNA vice-president Mathias Ary Jan.
