Throughout his career Paul Sandby (1731-1809) made hundreds of drawings of Windsor Castle and the surrounding area.
Many works were created on the visits he made to his brother Thomas, a deputy ranger at Windsor Great Park, which increased after 1782 when Sandby’s son Thomas Paul married Thomas’ daughter.
This small 4½ x 9¾in (11 x 25cm) watercolour shows Windsor Castle from Snow Hill in the park.
It comes from the collection of former Eton housemaster Nigel Jaques (1935-2020) and is offered at Karen Taylor Fine Art with an asking price of £3700.
