The Italian engraver Carlo Lasinio (1759-1838) produced a series of 12 etchings in the late 18th century based on caricatures of grotesque and unattractive couples by Leonardo da Vinci.

Dating to c.1790, these plates came with four popular satirical verses on beauty in the lower margin.

This trimmed 8 x 9½in (20 x 24cm) coloured etching depicting one of these unfortunate-looking duos is priced at £360 from Grosvenor Prints.
