Dawsons’ Fine Art & Antiques sale in Maidenhead on March 31 includes a private collection of fine and important European 17th, 18th and 19th century furniture.

Most of the items have been acquired at Sotheby’s and Christie’s auctions, with the majority bought at the Sotheby’s New York Ariane Dandois sale in 2007.

This Louis XIV Boulle marquetry bureau de mazarin attributed to Nicholas Sageot (1666-1731) has an estimate of £20,000-30,000. It is decorated with whimsical scenes in the style of Jean Berain below a canopy inlaid with mother of pearl, stained ivory, hardstone and copper foil.

This flock of carved and painted wood decoy pigeons features in Reeman Dansie’s sale of the residual collection of the Camden Passage antiques dealer Gordon Gridley.

A Toys, Models, Collectables and Sporting sale at Tennants on April 6 includes two 1940s Royal Navy painted brass crests, both offered with estimates of £500-800.

The first, bearing a thistle on a saltire, belonged to HMS Scotsman, an S Class submarine launched in August 1944 which saw brief action in the Pacific in 1945 and was broken up in 1964.

The second (pictured) is for HMS Contest, a C Class destroyer, also launched in 1944 and posted in the Far East after the end of the Second World War but broken up in 1960.

This Erard upright piano was marketed at the time as the Elizabethan New Patent Grand Oblique. Made in a Gothic-style carved walnut case with a pierced gilt metal gallery, this model of piano was displayed at the Great Exhibition in 1851.
