The Windmill by Sybil Andrews, priced at £40,000 by Osborne Samuel.
She was a leading figure at the Grosvenor School, known for the technique of linocut printmaking that was taught by Claude Flight and influenced by the Futurists.
Several of the women in the group eventually emigrated, Andrews to Canada, which, according to the gallery’s director Tania Sutton, spread “the influence and demand for their work. This ‘global’ demand has continued: exhibitions at the British Museum, Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, Museum of Fine Arts Boston etc have spurred the interest and introduced the works to an ever-increasing audience.
“Most recently Grosvenor School linocuts were a substantial part of an incredible donation to the MET in New York by Joanne and Leslie Garfield, longstanding clients of the gallery.”
Among the works by Andrews, the gallery offers The Windmill, 1933, one from an edition of 60. Available in top condition, it is priced at £40,000.
