Two pairs of shows featuring the collection are taking place at its galleries in London and Edinburgh this year. The first and current exhibitions are running concurrently until February 19 and the next are set to follow at the end of the year.

Cooper is known for his earthy, roughly textured, sculptural works. Though previously seen as an imitator of artists such as Hans Coper, his star has been rising on the open market.

The Fine Art Society hopes that the sale of the collection, amassed by a woman who met the artist at a fish and chips shop in Scotland, will position Cooper in his proper place in the canon of British studio potters.
