It was a whirlwind time organising stock, said artist and avid decorative collector Julia Watts, a partner in Cygnus Antiques with dealer Paul McNaughton.

“Paul has been an antiques dealer for many years, and we have known each other ever since he sold me a large quantity of antique leather books which is my main love”, said Watts.

“His shop/warehouse in Selkirk was so full that I offered to sort it all out and make it look wonderful. We had talked about starting a business together and when the opportunity came up to open an antiques shop in Berwick we knew it was right.”

The shop has MacNaughton’s own stock which includes printing blocks, ceramics and clocks but Watts is adding her own favourites including paintings and Victorian glass lustres. “We’ve been busy so far and hopefully that will continue. People have been very complimentary since we opened.”

The pair source at auctions and at fairs, including Kelso and Hexham and car boots.
