That seen depicting Florida and part of Georgia and Alabama, as the sub-title proclaims, is one of six spectacular chromolitho, double-page topographic vistas, each around two feet wide, that make up a Panorama of the Seat of the War.
This was an 1861-62 portfolio produced by artist and lithographer John Bachmann of New York, and one that focused on Confederate states at the outset of the American Civil War. Such views, said one writer on maps of that period, “…were easily understood and perhaps more meaningful to a public largely unskilled in map reading”.
The set offered by Swann on June 23 more than doubled expectations in selling at $35,000 (£28,595).

It sold for $12,000 (£9805).
