It brings together Thomson Roddick, run by Sybelle Thomson, and Thomas R Callan, run by Michael Callan.
The new firm has a total of 30 staff across four salerooms and offices and will focus on Ayr, the Ayrshire coast, the west of Scotland and the Glasgow area but will retain salerooms in Dumfries, Edinburgh and Carlisle as well as regional representation further afield.
The Callan firm has been in the auctions business since 1933. Thomson Roddick was founded in 1880 by John Thomson, the great-grandfather of Sybelle who is the fifth generation of the family to run the firm. She said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for both companies and we look forward to strengthening our expertise and building on the reputation of both firms.”
Sales coming up
Together the group has 10 expertsand will continue to hold traditional auctions, with interiors sales held on alternate Tuesdays in Dumfries and Carlisle and on Thursdays in Ayr and Edinburgh. These will be interspersed with periodic fine art and antique sales andspecialist auctions of antiquarian books and collectors’ items.
