What
More than 125 international exhibitors stand at the glitzy Chelsea fair, which boasts Champagne Pol Roger as its ‘Official Champagne Partner’ and Château Léoube as the Official Rosé Wine Partner. It shares some exhibitors with TEFAF Maastricht, but usually is the more Contemporary of the two, with specially commissioned installations at the entrance to the event.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2022?
Smaller than its last in-person fair, which ran in 2019, the event features just over 125 galleries and dealers – down from around 150 pre-pandemic. Newcomers include Elliot Davies Fine Art, Fine Minerals International, Steve Sly Japanese Art and Tristan Hoare Gallery. Others have appeared in the Masterpiece virtual event but are new to the physical staging such as Karen Taylor Fine Art, Michael Lipitch, Imperial Art and Anthony Outred.
The entrance is set to be transformed with a ‘large-scale reinterpretation’ of recent work by British artist Sarah Graham, featuring huge yellow anemones. Graham – represented at the fair by Lyndsey Ingram, who hosts a solo presentation on the artist – created the entrance piece with Micha Weidmann Studio. Inside, Masterpiece Presents features immersive works: this year two monumental light installations by Pakistani-American artist Anila Quayyum Agha (represented by exhibitor Sundaram Tagore Gallery).
The Sculpture Series this year has been organised by Melanie Vandenbrouck, curator of sculpture at the V&A.
Meanwhile, some visitors will be interested to hear of the introduction of the Masterpiece Private Dining Room, designed with Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu, which can be booked for private events.
