1 How did you get your start?

My husband and I had long been collectors of Old Masters art. The decision to start a business as dealers was a passion project for us, having both reached a point in our life and legal careers where we found ourselves deriving greater pleasure from our love of art.

2 What is your area of focus?

We specialise in haute epoque fine art, Medieval, Renaissance and early Baroque pieces from the 500-year period from c.1200 to 1700. Our primary focus is early sculpture, although we deal in all art from this period.

3 What would you like to see change regarding women’s roles in the art market?

The balance has been shifting gradually with more women gallery owners and directors than in the past. Similarly, the number of positions held by women on the boards of major international fairs and in senior leadership positions has also increased in recent times. Although there is still further to go, I am confident about the future and the perspectives, contributions and influences that women bring to the Old Master art market.

Sarah van Haeften. In a true partnership with her husband Johnny, they have built together over the course of 45 years one of the most respected international Old Master painting dealerships in the world.

It has to be champagne.
