A pair of early 19th century gilded Japanese screens offered for £32,000 by William Cook Antiques at the Buxton Antiques Fair.
Depicting a village by a lake, the screens retain their original painting and are offered for £32,000.
The event from May 19-22 hosts more than 40 dealers, with Cook joining newcomers such as Timewise and Dansk Silver. Returning dealers include Mark Buckley Antiques, Garret & Hurst and Walker Galleries. It is held in The Octagon in the Pavilion Gardens and was among the first events to be staged after lockdown in May last year.
A c.1970 East German glazed earthenware wine jug made in the Höhr Grenzhausen studios of Elfriede Balzar Kopp. The jug, 13in (33cm) tall, is signed Balzar Kopp to the base and offered for £345 by John Newton Antiques at Buxton Antiques Fair.
Organiser Sue Ede of Cooper Fairs says: “Last year’s fair reassured us all that interest in fairs was always there. Our visitors are very loyal and we were delighted to welcome so many of them back to this annual event.”
Among the long-term exhibitors is Janice Kehoe of Solo Antiques, a specialist in Art Nouveau and Art Deco sculpture and glass, who joined more than 10 years ago.
She says that, as usual, she has acquired new stock for the event. Kehoe adds: “Being an annual occasion makes it a special event for exhibitors and visitors and it is one I always look forward to immensely.”
