The new controls – import declarations for goods arriving from the EU – were set to come into force on June 30 but have been delayed until the end of 2023. The government said it will publish a new regime of border import controls this autumn ahead of the changes next year.
Minister for Brexit opportunities Jacob Rees- Mogg said: “It’s vital that we have the right import controls regime in place, so we’ll now be working with industry to review these remaining controls so that they best suit the UK’s own interests. We want the process for importing goods from the EU to be safe, secure and efficient.”
While the news is welcome, it will not solve the many post-Brexit import/export issues already faced by art and antiques dealers.
