They had decorated his penthouse on the top floor and roof terrace of 1500 North Lake Shore Drive, a 1927 co-operative building designed in the Renaissance Revival style by architect Rosario Candela.

Making far more than the $2000-4000 guideline were this pair of large giltwood canapés from the Wilkie estate which were dated to the mid 18th century and measured 10ft 8in (3.25m) in width. They were in overall decent condition but with some losses, repairs and restoration and the gilt decoration was catalogued as modern.

However, they generated considerable interest and ended up selling for $100,000 (£88,495) to a UK buyer in the room.
