I am no economist either, but was intrigued by your report on trends in global collecting (‘Art fair attendances are bouncing back’, News, ATG No 2567), which stated: “Global imports …increased 41% in 2021 and exports were up 38%.”
While it is easy to understand that for an individual country imports may exceed exports (or vice versa), surely on a global scale the totality of imports must always equal exports, unless… are there collectors on Mars?
