Organiser Dovehouse Fine Antiques Fairs’ long-term plans for a two-day biannual decorative fair at Chelsea Old Town Hall are currently on hold largely due to cost and viability.
However, Jane Alexander from the business is upbeat about the future and has plans in the pipeline for the her monthly decorative arts and antiques fairs at the Dorking Halls.
The next of these Surrey events is on Sunday, September 25, and she says: “We can average between 60 and 70 standholders at each fair with wonderful pieces and with some new exhibitors at our September fair.”
A new standholder at Dovehouse Fine Antiques Fairs is author and collector Nicholas Panes, who is offering a part of his collection of antique English and Chinese ceramics at the September fair including this small 17th century Kangxi mark and period dish at £485.
This fair is one of the longest running on the circuit, being launched in the 1970s by the late dealer Margaret Browne, and next year Alexander will have been organising it for 10 years.
She also runs popular summer brocantes in Dorking but said a larger location was needed for the fair next year to offer a greater number of stands and with the possibility of making this a two-day affair.
