Nine commission bids on November 19 at the design specialist auction house Schops Turowski (24% buyer’s premium) pointed the way and when the 13in (32cm) high stoneware Hour Glass vase came up, 18 contestants on the phones competed with many more online.
It took over 10 minutes before the hammer fell at a substantial €105,000 (£91,305).
A collector based outside Germany proved to be the most determined.
