At this month’s Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair, Elaine Phillips Antiques offers a pair of 17th century high-back oak chairs priced £2950.
The chairs, probably Welsh, are available for £2950, at the event which runs from January 27-29.
The dealership, now run by the founder’s daughter Louise Phillips, also features a 19th century oak farmhouse table, 17th century oak wall cupboard and a set of late 18th century ladderback Lancashire country dining chairs on its stand.
Birmingham influx
The firm is one of more than 45 exhibitors – a number apparently bolstered by the closure of the 2023 edition of Art and Antiques for Everyone, the venerable event at Birmingham’s NEC, announced last year.
The Yorkshire fair runs three times a year in Harrogate. It is now the only major antiques event to take place there since The Northern Antiques Fair moved to Tennants’ auction house site in Leyburn.
Opus Antiques is selling this c.1820 pictorial puzzle featuring illustrations of English history for £880. It includes scenes from the landing of Julius Caesar to the death of Richard III and was illustrated by Edward Edlin.
These two fairs now make a Yorkshire triangle with Galloway Fair’s twice a year staging at Duncombe Park.
Other newcomers to the Pavilions of Harrogate include Opus Antiques of Devon, Hickmet Fine Art of London and Allan Coutts of Scotland.
Organiser Sue Ede of Cooper Events says: “Our exhibitor list is extremely strong with a very diverse range of specialities.”
