Here we pick out one that caught our eye this week.
This Edwardian table croquet set comes complete with eight mallets and balls, all colour-coded to indicate the order of play. It is offered in its original box with the display stand with wooden screw-threaded supports and two horizontal racks for the balls and mallets.
It is attributed to the firm Jaques of London, which bills itself as “the oldest sports and games manufacturer in the world”.
Founded in 1795, it is known for pioneering table tennis, trademarking the name ‘ping-pong’ in 1901, and producing chess sets, tiddlywinks sets, and snakes and ladders games.
It also played a crucial role in popularising croquet during the 19th century, producing editions of the rules in 1857, 1860 and 1864.
