The bulk of the show, which is a loan exhibition from May 18- June 20, comes from the artist’s archive.
Alongside the exhibition, the gallery offers a new edition of prints produced by the artist’s family on the 50th anniversary of Some Poems of Jules Laforgue with Images by Patrick Caulfield (1973). The four new prints have been made in an edition of 100, half of which the family will keep. The remaining 50 are offered at the gallery for prices starting at £5000.
The gallery is also researching and cataloguing more than 200 individual studies from the collection of Paulin Caulfield, the artist’s wife.
Dealer Lilley says: “Caulfield’s output in his lifetime was judicious and limited, edited with reticence about how much he was willing to reveal. He reconciled society and solitude. He loved the company of others, but he didn’t ask for help or advice.
“This is a lot to do with being poor in post-war Britain, the bleakness of his upbringing and the need for self-sufficiency, and a family that did not really communicate.”
Haughton seminar
The Haughton Seminar’s theme this year is The Power & Prestige of Collecting: Looking at Private & Museum Collections and their Survival.
The event runs from June 28-29 at the Society of Chemical Industry at 14 Belgrave Square, London. The seminar’s usual venue, The British Academy, is currently closed for refurbishment.
Speakers include Caroline de Guitaut, deputy surveyor of the King’s works of art, Claudia Lehner-Jobst, director of the Augarten Porcelein Museum in Vienna, and Karol Wright, president and executive director of the Corning Glass Museum.

Japan Art Expo
Japan Art Expo runs from June 3-4 in Utrecht, Netherlands. The event is part conference, part art fair, showcasing Japanese craftsmanship. Founded and run by Eddy Wertheim, director of Japanese Gallery Kensington in London, the expo features lectures, symposia and handling sessions. Exhibitors include Nihonto Hataya of Japan, Giuseppe Piva Japanese Art from Italy and Patrice Sabbah of France.

The Power of She
Bowman Sculpture’s exhibition The Power of She (ATG No 2591), run with Guerin Projects, has reported some early sales. These include Barbara Hepworth’s Disc with Strings (Sun), Emily Young’s lapis carving Skies Dancer, and Joanna Allen’s charcoal patinated bronze Shadow. The exhibition continues until June 16 at the St James’s, London, gallery.
