He is best known for his vivid modernist textile designs for the Swedish firm Svenskt Tenn: riots of ferns, birds and flowers, including the Butterfly design pictured here.

Now for the first time in the UK, the Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey – founded by fashion designer Zandra Rhodes, no stranger to vibrant colours herself – has an exhibition of Frank’s work, where furniture designs are displayed alongside some of his zingy textiles, watercolours, framed wallpaper and carpets.
