The woodcut illustrated contents of this Taunton copy were described as: Cheap and Good Husbandry (2 books) 12th edn; Country Contentments, or the Husbandmans Recreations, 10th edn; The English Housewife; The Inrichment of the Weald of Kent; A New Orchard and Garden. The last item is, in fact, by William Lawson.
An 1830, first edition of The Memoirs of the late Captain Hugh Crow... was the principal travel book in the sale.
Containing ...descriptive Sketches of the Western Coast of Africa and illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, three plates and a folding map, this was a good copy of the posthumously published memoirs of a Manx-man “long engaged in the Africa trade” – which I presume to mean slaving. In contemporary half calf, it made £340.

Reprints are a Way to Wealth
UK: TOP LOT in this sale was a 1668 edition of Gervase Markham’s A Way to get Wealth, a ‘nonce’ collection, first issued in 1623, which incorporates half a dozen works by this important but prolific and commercially inventive writer on agriculture, who was not averse to putting different titles to what were essentially the same works or to re-issuing unsold copies of new books under new titles.
