The key to the magnitude of the price could be found on a small enamel label inscribed for the Victorian cabinetmaker William Watts. Watts produced furniture by a number of leading designers of the time including the architect E.W. Godwin, to whom is attributed the design of this chair.
It sold to Kensington Church Street dealer Paul Reeves.

UK: ESTIMATED at a lowly £700-900, this Aesthetic movement armchair sailed to £21,500 (plus 15 per cent premium) at the Banbury salerooms of Dreweatt Neate on March 17.
